2026 Dodge Durango: The V6 is Back!

2025-11-25

The Dodge Durango is one of the most popular full-size SUVs on the market today—and for good reason. Its popularity can be attributed to many factors, but the variety of powertrains it offers definitely plays a major role.

Until recently, it was believed that the 2026 Durango would be available only with V8 engines, but the American automaker has decided to bring back the V6.

A Proven Engine

While the V8s remain highly sought-after, the Pentastar V6 has its loyal following, which is why Dodge has decided to offer it again for 2026. Demand for this engine continues to grow, and the brand has chosen to listen to its customers.

The 2026 Dodge Durango will therefore offer four powertrain options, starting with the 3.6-liter V6. It produces 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The return of this engine also gives buyers a more affordable option with better fuel efficiency.

Next up is the classic 5.7-liter V8, delivering 360 horsepower, another engine appreciated for its durability.

Things get serious with the 6.4-liter V8, producing 475 horsepower. And if that’s still not enough, there’s the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 putting out a staggering 710 horsepower.

Don’t forget, 2026 is a special year for the Durango as the brand introduced the Jailbreak edition with the Hellcat engine. This variant essentially allows you to combine all the options you want without restriction. Altogether, this represents over 7 million possible combinations, making it highly unlikely that any two Durango Jailbreaks will be identical.

The Durango remains one of my favorite SUVs, and I’m sure many of you feel the same. As you probably know, the current generation will soon be retired to make way for a new Durango—so it’s now or never if you want to treat yourself to the Durango of your dreams.
